57 weeks since starting HRT. Surgery is in 3 days!!! Holy shit! It literally just hit yesterday that this was really going to happen. These damn little things that made everyone think I was a boy my whole life will be gone! Then I can stop taking the T blockers! OMG I am so excited, I am a super hippy when it comes to medicine. I hate taking anything. The Estradiol I am okay with since it is bioidentical. The Spironolactone is a blood pressure medication. I don't have high blood pressure. It does a bunch of other shit too. Same with the Finasteride and the Lupron. Who knows what else this crap is changing in my body that I don't want. So time for them to go.
The only difference I should feel afterwards will be the loss of the side effects from the T blockers. My hydration levels should return to normal and the lethargic feeling should decrease as my T levels rise a tiny bit from what is produced in the adrenal glands. I am chemically castrated at the moment, so I already know what it feels like to not have functioning testes. I am nervous about having to be laid up for a few weeks. I get very depressed when I can't do anything, so I will have to find things to stay busy. I have a few books I have wanted to read, there is plenty of paperwork to do at work, and I can play some video games. Maybe some friends and family will come visit and hang out with me too! I am hoping to be able to move around again after a couple days, and hopefully I will be off painkillers by the weekend so I can drive around. I heal pretty quickly so I think this is a reasonable expectation.
So in the world of politics, North Carolina passed a bill that is anti-LGBT. HB2 is the bill if you want to research it for yourself. As soon as this passed, some major corporations started recommending that North Carolina Governor repeals the bill. At this point, I figured "yeah yeah yeah, how dare you do something so terrible we want good PR so we will tell you how angry we are" was the most that would happen, then the media would forget about it and trans folks would have to suffer. Nobody cares about us anyways, right? Why would they do anything? Holy shit was I wrong!!! First off was Paypal, which cancelled planning on a new building which would employ at least 40 people and promote economic growth in North Carolina. Their reasoning was that the state bill did not fall in line with their company policies of equality. Discrimination would limit their search to find qualified workers to fill positions, and they would take their company somewhere else. Hell yeah! Hit 'em where it hurts: their wallets. If you want to be a bigot, it is going to cost you. More recently Bruce Springsteen cancelled a show in North Carolina. The Boss put his reputation on the line to fight something he thought was morally wrong. I am amazed at the action being taken so far to help legitimize trans people under the law. I feel like the visibility brought about over the last couple years is making massive changes, and what is happening in North Carolina is showing that we as a culture now realize that we need to treat each other with dignity and respect. The extremist right is clawing tooth and nail to hold onto the past, but times are changing, and they are fighting a losing battle. I hope to continue to be visible, voice my opinion, and support equality across the planet. Oh, just for the record, Bruce is still the fucking Boss!!!
